Bookself
a life in spines
Books(h)elf is a self portrait project: a collection of 25 important books from my life rethought and redesigned as a single series. Part of the 2009 UCLA DMA “Self Portraits” Senior Exhibition, it is inspired by Thoreau, who famously wrote: “How many a man has dated an era in his life from the reading of a book!”
For the front cover of each book I arranged the type to reflect its objective content. For the back cover, I chose a quote that best describes a personal memory, emotion or story I associate with the book, and designed a black and white logo to accompany it.
